After 200hrs of work, lots of thought and care in choosing methods and materials, the Siberian Express team finally has its own sled. We call it (of course) Siberian Express | Touring ... it's a bit too heavy to be a sprinter... and not so small actually. But we like it. And I thought I'd share details here in case it may be an inspiration to anyone.

Image

Built based upon the drawings created by Charlie Yeager and his students at the National Mine School with the documents created by Michael Shantz based on the original drawings and some minor adjustments and slight changes here and there.

Cut from raw Ash lumber and built by hand from start to finish. Steam bent and glued on handmade forms and sanded and oiled for the final touch. This is assembled from 30 individual pieces and hand-tied to make it as authentic as possible.

More photos can be seen at http://flickr.com/photos/baldvinh for those who might be interested. Any further details I can share, please ask away. I'm happy to reply.

tnx.
Baldvin

Wow, your new sled looks GREAT. Have you had a chance to run it yet?

Tnx. No, not yet. We're planning a trip up north or we'll go up on a glacier to try it out. Can't wait until next winter so I'll go snow hunting next week probably. Unfortunatelly this winter has been very (very) light on snow around Reykjavik so it's far from ideal conditions for a sled like this. But we're confident NEXT winter will be rocking ;)

I am SO impressed!!! Wow. You made it yourself. That is just AWESOME. It's lovely. I hope it drives as beautifully as it looks. Well done. Have you found snow? I hear they had some last week down south in Willow. I'm happy to report there isn't much left here at Daisy Acres, mostly just frozen into the compost pile and such.
