Well I never knew that when I started out writing on this forum almost 4 years ago that I will now be writing about this...

Many people I think find it difficuilt to mix a new baby with their first "kids" dogs. I can relate to that in some way as life with a baby is different and you need a strong support system either a very good friend, grand parents or off course a husband. I am fortunate to have a very supportive husband or as Kirsten once put it, a good egg.

What I believe in theory and now in practice is two main things: 1 to be consistand, what your dogs may have done before you had a baby they must still be able to do now. So it is very important to establish that with the intention in mind that one day I will be adding a baby to this set up. This way they adjust very well to the new arrival. The second one for me is to be balanced. It takes a couple of weeks to get into the swing of things but I work from home which some people may think makes it easier...to the contrary I have to juggle clients, clients dogs, my dogs, house hold with babies schedule of sleeping, eating, crying, playing etc. But being calm and having support helps to let this "machine" run as smooth as possible. You should try to make some time even if it is washing your hair 12 at night:D

I love my new baby to bits and I was afraid that my feelings may lesson for my dogs when my baby comes...but really it only got stronger seeing how tollerent and amazing they are with him and with ME as I still make lots of mistakes. I think they look forward to when little Logan will be able to play and learn from them. I am so blessed.

On a side note I miss my community of friends here on AHB forum and will try to find a little more time to pop in here, I mean this is where my adventure with my dogs got started! This is where I feel "safe" to just talk dog without any funny business-thank you for that!

Much love,
Ice(Louise  )

Well, I think perhaps that you have been a little bit busy?! :)
I've been busy too... but it hasn't involved a newborn human! I heard on the radio today that we must MAKE time for what is important to us, Instead of saying to someone "I don't have time for that," we should say: "That is not a priority for me right now."

And boy what a difference that can make :P

Do I tell my husband that he is no longer a priority?!? I don't think so. Do I tell this to my dogs? Yes, sometimes I do.
Actually, one of my priorities is getting my foster dogs adopted... so really, I should be taking photos and posting them on petfinder, and updating their listings. (Rich bought me a new digital camera to take on vacation, so I'm hoping that downloading and uploading photos will be a lot quicker and easier.)

What I should NOT be doing is farming and cooking and all those other silly computer facebook games I am addicted to. I'm on vacation right now, so most everything has spoiled or withered or what not. Maybe I should just not go back and look?! I could, perhaps, be done with all of them. Hmmmm.

Louise, I've missed you too... but there is SO much of you here on the AHB forum, that it feels like you are still here! Kiss all five of the Kids for me, will you?!

I am happy to hear that my presence is felt still on the forum, because apart of my heart is still here :D

I have started to read Lance Mackey's new book and I remember you talking about Rick Swenson? He mentions him in his book, but can't remember how you know him. It's so nice reading and being able to relate to some of the things he talks about in some small way. But I guess I am now very far off topic...as always

Ice
P.S: Will pass on kisses. Ice's back leg is a little hurt so no mushing for her which is bad as it's the season for it.
