A friend phoned me with a problem. The Husky with 4 other Huskies live with people who are home most of the time. She jumps over super high walls even climbs trees to escape. She gets moderate exercise.

Any advice A.S.A.P!!

Ice

It sounds like this dog will probably have to be tethered for her own safety. Since she lives with other huskies you might want to check out the tethering system recommended by Mush with P.R.I.D.E. - it's the same system you saw in Lynn O's and my yards.

Another option is to put a roof over their pen, even over the entire yard if necessary. It won't be easy or cheap, though.

Swanny is correct.

Secure tethering can be installed a lot faster than correcting perimeter problems. And make sure the collar is snug. If you can get more than one finger under the collar it's too loose.

Hi guy's

Thanks a lot!

In South Africa tethering is not something most people do. It's much different then in Alaska:)

And they don't have a pen either. It's the back yard that is enclosed that they use to keep their dogs.

The only thing I could think off was to manage the dog until he has bonded with his new family. He is a rescue and has only been there 3 months. So I suggested that they should keep him in the house or similar type of secure area when they are not home. I also thought that the dog needs individual attention away from the other dogs including daily training and execise to help bond with him.

Do you think that might work over a period of time, or is it just wish full thinking?

Thanks,
Ice

Escaping is a self-rewarding behavior.
So oncea dog learnsto enjoythe freedom, itcanbe
a difficult habit tobreak.

Ihave escape artists here,butthey
usually hang around becausethere
iswaymore kool stuffhere
at home than most other places!
(Excepttheneighbor'schicken coop,
andbunnies...)

Tetheringis an"urgent"fix

Hey Swanny I love my new M.U.S.H with pride books! And what makes it even nicer is that I can visualize what I saw over at your place and Lynn's.

Cool. I hope you find them useful.

There seems to be a LOT of interest in dryland mushing in South Africa, including a couple of relatively large clubs that have joined P.R.I.D.E. Are you familiar with any of them?

Yes I am like Highveld sledding, Cape Town Sledding, Northern Breed sledding club, Howling Husky, Sibe Husky etc and then now "me" All Breeds Sledding.
Most of the clubs only focus on Sibe's.My little club has got Alaskans, Sibes, Labradors, Husky cross golden retriever and a boxer. It makes it rather fun. I am planning on using some of the material for my club from Mush with pride as I understand that you may do so?

And then we also have two institutions SAFFS and the other once name slipped my mind. SAFFS has asked me to write an article for next year about equipment used for dry land sledding. But I haven't started on that and I am still thinking if I should or should not do it. Once you get sucked into all that hype the people politics is overwhelming... And you know me, I like to keep it all fun!!!
