I stumbled across this while playing with google this morning.

Two Ontario Provincial Police officers will be doing a historical reenactment of a long range sled dog patrol to commemorate the department's 100th anniversary.

Details are available at http://www.opp100.ca/English/commemorative_patrol.html

Please note that the guide is holding a whip...we can hope some things have changed since the "good old days" :?:

Chinook and Seamus would match that team better than any of mine and most of yours! I know a lot of lab owners that might could loan you another too.

I wonder if the cops will grow moustaches for the event?!

Thanks for sharing Swanny!

how cool. I wish them all the best!

I tried to learn how to use a whip when I would participate in long distance historical trail rides. Some times I'd ride along on the Mule teams. I dont know about the old timer dog drivers, but the Mule Skinners used the whip for directional changes, and not to strike the animals...( while driving at least :x ) Use of the whip takes skill and training. Speaking for myself, I'm glad we don't use them any longer. Below is a link to one such cattle drive. Pretty Cool stuff from a far and distant past life.

Another and my favorite was the Shawnee Trail Drive.
